Station: Scott Lake, MI (Saunders)

Scott Lake was located in southeast Iron County in 1883 just north of the Menominee River. It was originally named Sanders Spur. [MPN] In 1918 this station was known as Saunders according to the C&NW telegraphers agreement.

This was a junction with the Chicago & Northwestern main line between Iron Mountain the Iron River. A branch left the line at this location going south into Wisconsin,

Time Line

1913. This station was known as Saunders and was open day and night. Saunders had a wye and water tower. It had three passenger trains passing through each way, including one which came up from the branch in Wisconsin. It also had a daily way freight along with unscheduled ore trains. [ETT-1913-1119]


Industry

A.C. Hatterbert Lumber Company veneer mill located here in 1889.
