Time Line

1881. February 16. George Hannan, who has been Green's “right bower” in the stage business between Standish and Alpena, has in company with Dr. Frank Gregory of Standish, purchased a half interest in J. P. Light's stage line between Sterling and the terminus of the Tawas & Bay County Railroad. Mr. Hannon is an experienced stage man, and the route on which he will belong will be more popular than ever. He will be pleased to see his friends and patrols on the new line. [AArgus-1881-0216] Note: Sterling was a station on the JL&S railroad north of Standish.

1882. November. During the past two weeks 150 men have been sent up to the Tawas & Bay County Road, to carry on the proposed extension (west) toward the Mackinaw division of the Michigan Central and also to relay a mile of new track through Tawas. A new locomotive manufactured at Pittsburgh, PA was received the past week and placed in running order. This makes the fourth engine on the line thus far. Its purchase was rendered necessary by the large increasing traffic over the road and cost $10,000. [DFP-1882-1128]
