Railroad: Lake George & Muskegon River railroad

The Lake George & Muskegon River railroad was built in 1877 as a logging line from the Muskegon River in Clare County 11.2 miles out. The line had several branches. It was pulled up and abandoned in 1882.  [MRL]

Notes

The Lake George & Muskegon River Railroad Company has built and is operating a road in Clare County, from Lake George in section 8, town 18 north of range 5 west, to the Muskegon River, in Section 21, north of range 6 west.

The traffic of this road is wholly confined to the transport of pine logs from the forests about Lake George to the Muskegon River, down which they are floated to the mills, where they are cut into lumber This venture in special railroading is proving eminently successful.
