Time Line

1887. July 17. The Lowell & Hastings railroad company has commenced laying iron on their track between Lowell and Freeport. [PHDH-1887-0717]

1888. From Lowell to Greenville, a survey is being made for the Lowell & Hastings railroad. [LDP-1888-0517]

1897. As general business revives, the prospects for extending the Lowell & Hastings railroad from Freeport to Hastings, a distance of 10 miles, are again being discussed. It is graded a part of the way. Most of the stock of the road is said to be owned by Sweet, Martin & Hollister of Grand Rapids, and the line is operated in connection with the Detroit, Grand Rapids & Western. [LSJ-1897-0519]
