Railroad: Ford Motor Company Railroad (L'Anse)

The Ford Motor Company operated a private logging railroad in Baraga County near L'Anse.

Time Line

1936. July. The Ford Motor Company has let a contract to the Bacco Construction Co. of Iron Mountain for the construction of 20 miles of standard gauge railroad from the company's No. 2 camp, south of L'Anse, into the Huron Mountain district by way of Arvon, according to an announcement by G. A. Soli, superintendent of the Ford plant at L'Anse. Construction work will be started next Monday giving employment to a large number of men. The railroad will open for logging operations, a vast area of timberland in the Huron Mountains in the vicinity of the Ford summer home. [IDG-1936-0728]
