As of 1903, the entire capital stock is owned by the LS&MS except one share. This line is 54.76 miles long in Michigan with 28.3 miles of sidings and spurs. [MCR-1904].
Notes
This was likely a construction railroad which was immediately operated by the Michigan Southern & Northern Indiana upon completion. MS&NI became part of the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern and then the New York Central system.
On the later wide double track between Alexis and River Rouge,. this was the west, southbound route.
Time Line
1860. The Detroit, Monroe & Toledo railroad, along with the Michigan Southern, operate two westbound trains from Detroit to Chicago, via Monroe. One, the "mail and express" leaves Detroit at 7:20 am, arriving at Chicago at 8:00 p.m. The Chicago & Cincinnati Express leaves Detroit at 7:40 p.m., arriving at Chicago at 8:00 a.m. A "Toledo Accommodation" leaves Detroit at 12:15 p.m. for Monroe, arriving at 2:50 p.m. There were two eastbound trains from Chicago, arriving at Brush Street station at 7:05 a.m. and 6:50 p.m. All of these trains connect at Adrian and run via the "Old Road" main line. "Patent ventilators and dusters" are used on summer trains. Sleeping cars accompany all night trains. Trains are run by Chicago time, which is 20 minutes slower than Detroit time. [DFP-1860-0811]
