The Allegan & Lake Shore railroad was built in 1885 and extended five miles from the Kalamazoo River. t was abandoned in 1889. [MRL]

Time Line

1883. The Allegan & Lake Shore Railroad Company is incorporated with $100,000 stock authorized. [DFP-1883-0610]

1883. The ties are down on the A&LS and track laying is ready to begin the coming week. [DFP-1883-0910]

1887. May 28. An engine on the A&LS was ditched this morning, fatally crushing and scalding the engineer, injuring the fireman. [GRH-1887-0927]
