J. E. Potts, Lumberman
Potts owned and operated a logging company in the 1880's and 1890s north and west of Au Sable, Michigan. The J. E. Potts Logging Company owned a narrow gauge railroad to bring logs out of the forests and to Potts (a saw mill location east of Mio). Potts became ill and the operation went into receivership. The railroad was purchased by H. M. Loud & Sons, and ultimately sold it to the Detroit & Mackinac railroad which converted it to standard gauge.
