1941. The case of the Homer ore cars attached by sheriff's deputies while enroute from Iron River to Escanaba docks in late September reappeared in public view yesterday. The action involves the suit of D. H. Campbell of Wilson, mormer Iron River mining man against the Homer Ore Company, operators of the Homer mine in Mineral Hills. Campbell has commenced a suit in Iron county. The nature of the complaint is not yet specifically known but Campbell is suing for approximately $8,000 alleging that he is entitled to an undivided 1/24th of the value of the iron ore of the Homer mine now at lower lake ports after shipment down the lakes during the recent navigation season. Under the attachment, 18 carloads of ore were seized by the Menominee county sheriff, Edward Reindl. A writ of garnishment against the Chicago & North Western railroad company is also in the same action. [EDP-1941-1225]
1945. August. An action of David H. Campbell, Iron Mountain, and his wife against the Hanna Iron Ore company for five cents a ton on 210,000 tons of iron ore mined from the Minckler mine opened in Iron county circuit court at Crystal Falls Tuesday before Judge Frank A. Bell. With it will be combined a counter-action of the mining company against the Campbells for their proportionate share of the $300,000 cost of developing the Minckler mine, in which the Campbells have a 1/24th interest. Litigation is another chapter in the long effort of the Campbells to recover sums due for what they alleged were infractions of the operating lease. The Minckler is one of a group of mines operated by the company in Mineral Hills village, and ore from the Mickler was moved to the surface through the shaft of the adjoining Homer mine. The Campbells carried action in this case through circuit court and lost but won on ap[[eal to the supreme court which allowed damages and other defined the rights of the owners. [EDP-1945-0823]
