Time Line

1908. Mine opened.

1910. The Ohio mine, operated by the Niagara Mining company has been closed down. The property has been in continuous operation for some five or six years past, and there is said to be a good body of ore in sight. The company closed the Ohio because it can secure all the ore it needs of the quality produced there at the Portland mine, adjoining, at a much lower cost per ton. The Ohio is an underground proposition, and the Portland ore is being removed with steam shovels. [LAS-1910-0702]

1914. Mine closed.

1951. Reopened by Cleveland-Cliffs.
