Notes

The Nonesuch Mine was located near Silver City, MI in Ontonagon County. It operated intermittently from 1867 to 1912. Ore produced here was processed at the nearby Nonesuch Mill. The site was also known as "Noresuch Gap".

This copper mine and townsite was located in what is now the Porcupine State Park southwest of Silver City. The Nonesuch vein of copper later became part of the White Pine mine.

According to park information, this site had as many as 300 inhabitants at one time. Today, only a few stone foundations remain.

The name "Nonesuch" means "a person or thing that is regarded as perfect or excellent."

Time Line

1906. The plan to erect a stamp mill at the Nonesuch, which was announced by President Alexander Agassiz of the Calumet & Hecla in his last annual report is to be carried to early consummation. Machinery for this purpose has already been shipped from the stamp mill at Lake Linden by tug and landed at Iron River, the nearest dockage point to the Nonesuch. It will be hauled thence by team to the property, a distance of eight miles. Three heads are to be installed. [DD-1906-0908]
