Norwich Mine was first worked about 1850 and located at the Norwich townsite in Ontonagon County. The area was also known as Norwich Gap. There was also a stamp mill here, all of which was out of business by 1865. [MPN]

1851. May. The Norwich Mine, the stock of which is held in New York, has a vein (of copper) from 12-18" thick, nearly pure copper. They have two miners and 3-4 laborers at work, and have got out sixty tons of copper. [DFP-1o851-0503]
