Notes
About 1855 silver was discovered here in Ontonagon County. [MPN] The Scranton Mining Company was organized in 1873 for the purpose of smelting copper and silver from a vein discovered along the Little Iron River. It was said that ore from the vein assayed at 36 ounces of silver per ton of rock. This was not a major operation and mining was abandoned in 1876. [MINDAT]
