Port of Monroe
The Port of Monroe is located at the west end of Lake Erie in Monroe County, near the mouth of the Raisin River. In the early 1800's, this port received settlers who came through the Erie Canal (in New York state) and then by lake ships to Monroe where they finished their trip on the southern Michigan railroad route through Adrian and points west. Freight and farm products were shipped from this port and the port continues to receive coal for a power plant.
